Orgs and seats

An org is the billing and data boundary. Public UI says org. There is no personal-org type. Until you create or join one, you stay on Start.

Org home and Org code

Each org has a minted Org code (eight characters). Everyone in the org can view and copy it; you do not type it at create. Private pages are /org/{code}, /org/{code}/members, and /org/{code}/billing.

Org home is that org’s projects, recent comments, and links to Members and Billing. It is not a Dashboard and not /.

The header shows the active org name. That menu is where you open Org home, switch orgs, open Members, create another org, or join a pending invite. The avatar menu is Account, Help, Contact, and Log out — not org switch.

Owners and Members

Product roles are Owner and Member only. An org may have several Owners.

  • Owner — bill, invite, remove, edit org profile (name, category, city), Make owner / Make member
  • Member — use the org’s research, view the roster and seat meter, view Billing usage. Cannot checkout, invite, or see invoices or payment method

The last remaining Owner cannot leave or be removed.

Invites and seats

A seat is a named member slot. Occupied = accepted members + pending invites. The cap is enforced when you add or invite. Law1 never auto-kicks people if occupied later exceeds seats (for example after a lapse). Invite and resend then stay disabled until you remove people, cancel invites, or add seats.

Owners invite by email, role Owner or Member (default Member). Free and Trial are one seat and cannot buy extras — the invite form stays disabled until the org is on Basic or Pro with spare seats.

You cannot hold a second Free or Trial membership by creating or accepting. Paid invites are not capped that way. A lapse to Free never auto-removes you from orgs.

Pending invites go to /invites/…. Accept must use the invited email (Google must match, or join as that address). Signed in as someone else: sign out first.

Create another org

From the org menu, not a URL. Same fields as Start (name, category, city). The creator is Owner on Free. Create is blocked while you already have a Free or Trial org: upgrade or leave that org first.

Leave and transfer

There is no separate transfer wizard. Make owner, then Leave.

Anyone except the last remaining Owner may leave. Owners who leave lose billing and invite on that org. Last Owner: make someone else an owner first. You cannot leave as the last owner.

Org delete is not self-serve

There is no Delete org control. Do not look for one on Members or Billing.

The last remaining Owner emails [email protected] to tear the org down. Org data and billing stay until that teardown. After success, that User has zero orgs and lands on Start — they may delete their account or create a new org.

GST invoices are kept. There is no cash refund for leftover paid time on org teardown. See Refund and Account and security (last-owner User delete is blocked for the same reason).
